Birch Tree Program

Our Birch Tree Program is recommended as an aid in the prevention and control of the leafminer and bronze birch borer. These particular insects are a continual problem to the birch tree and cannot only weaken the tree, but can cause the death of the tree if left unattended.

To keep your Birch tree healthy and beautiful, a maintenance program is important. Proper pruning of the deadwood in the Fall is necessary to prevent further insect attraction. Fertilization once a year is a must to provide the proper nutrients the tree requires to fight insects, enhance vigor, and maintain optimum health. See below for the approaches to this tree's health.

(Birch Borer Holes)                                                                                                (Birch Borer Tree)

(Birch Leafminer)

One of the following two approaches is recommended for the control of leafminer and the bronze borer. The program designed for your tree depends on the condition of the tree, the placement of the tree on your property and the spray drift potential. These programs are to be performed on a yearly basis:

OPTION I LEAFMINER APPLICATION – This service is performed by injection to the soil around the base of the tree. This is done in early Spring.

INJECTION – This service is performed by placing pressurized capsules containing the appropriate chemicals in the trunk of the tree. The chemicals can move freely within the sap system of the tree and is transported into the branches and leaves.
FALL FERTILIZAION – This service helps provide the proper nutrients the tree requires to maintain optimum health.

OPTION II LEAFMINER APPLICATION – See explanation in Option I.

1st BIRCH BORER SPRAY APPLICATION – This service is a spray to the tree, at the proper time, to control the borer when it is active (late May or early June).
2nd BORER SPRAY APPLICATION – This service is a follow-up spray to the tree within a ten-day to two-week interval of the first spray to control the active borer.
FALL FERTILIZATION – See explanation in Option I.
